SMU Access to SciFinder

Who can use SciFinder:
SciFinder is restricted to SMU students, faculty, and staff. Unlike most of our other electronic resources, there is no walk-in access available for visitors on any library computer.
About SciFinder:
SciFinder is the most comprehensive database for the chemical literature, indexing journal articles and patent records, chemical substances and reactions. It is a core research tool for chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, physics, environmental science and other science and engineering disciplines.

As of Fall 2010, all SMU users will need to use the web version. We no longer have access to the SciFinder Client version.


For 1st Time Users:

SciFinder Web requires a one-time registration and creation of a username/password. You'll need to login with this information each time you use SciFinder Web. If you had a SciFinder account at another institution, you will need to re-register with a new username.

  1. Please visit this page. You will need to do this from a computer on-campus or using VPN.
    You will have to authenticate with your SMU username and password to proceed to the registration form.
  2. Review the instructions for creating the username/password, then click the registration link at the end of the form.
    You must register with your SMU email address.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email (which may go to your spam folder). Click the link in the email message to complete the registration.

For Registered Users:

To use SciFinder, go to https://scifinder.cas.org/ and login with your individual username/password.
