- Center for Family Counseling.
At its SMU-in-Legacy campus, SMU in 2008 opened a state of the art Center for Family Counseling. It provides counseling services on a sliding fee scale. The counseling is provided by SMU’s Master’s-level Counseling students, who have finished the majority of their coursework and are working on accruing their hours for graduation. In addition, each Master’s student is under the guidance and supervision of seasoned Doctoral licensed faculty and staff at SMU.
Through a partnership with the Resource Center of Dallas, SMU’s Center for Family Counseling provides additional mental health services in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas.
- Diagnostic Center for Dyslexia and Related Disorders.
The Diagnostic Center was established in response to a community need for services that evaluate individuals for learning disorders related to reading acquisition and comprehension. The Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluative services and appropriate medical, psychological, and educational referrals and recommendations to children, adolescents, and adults who are at risk for dyslexia. For more information, click here, or contact the center at 214-SMU-READ (768-7323), or at reading@smu.edu.
- Bioethics in hospital settings.
SMU’s Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility has collaborated in Southwestern Medical School’s Program in Ethics in Science and Medicine. In addition, the Maguire Center participates in the planning of Ethics Grand Rounds, and collaborates with the institutional ethics committees for Parkland Memorial Hospital, Children's Medical Center, and Zale-Lipshy Hospital.
- North Texas Bioethics Network.
SMU is one of the participants in the North Texas Bioethics Network, which brings together bioethics scholars from diverse academic and practice-based backgrounds from institutions all across north Texas, including SMU, UT-Southwestern Medical Center (UT-SW), University of Dallas, UT School of Public Health, UT-Dallas, UT-Arlington, Texas Wesleyan University, Austin College, Medical City - Dallas, Baylor Health Care System, and others.

- Dallas Metropolitan Consortium in Psychology.
The Dallas Metropolitan Consortium in Psychology has created, with two partner universities (SMU and University of Texas at Dallas) a pre-doctoral internship in professional psychology. Congruent with the missions of the university counseling centers, the primary emphasis of the internship is on providing graduate students with rich and varied professional training experiences to assist them through this critical transition period in their growth and development into professional psychologists.
