 What shall I do?
I've got too many course sections.
How do I combine section rosters?

The new integration of Blackboard and Access.SMU creates a course shell for all courses and sections being taught during the current term. Some faculty love it and others want to maintain only one course for all sections.

You can combine your class rosters into one Blackboard course. Here are the steps.

  • Go to the Blackboard course/section containing the roster you want to transfer
  • In the Control Panel, choose Copy Course
  • On the screen that opens, Choose Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course.
  • In Section 1, browse your courses to find the receiving course.
  • In Section 2, click the check box next to one of the Content Options you never use. (For most people, Task works well because most people never use that function).
  • In Section 3, click the Enrollments check box.
  • Click submit.

Depending upon the number of students and the number of instructors doing similar transfers, this could be practically instantaneous or could take 10-15 minutes.

IMPORTANT: You must have Instructor privileges in both courses. The add/drops will continue to effect the original courses. You will have to manually add or drop students in the course you are using for all sections.
