Chaplain and Minister to the University

The Reverend Dr. Stephen Rankin has been appointed SMU's new
Chaplain and minister to
the University, effective July 1, 2009.
Rankin comes to SMU from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he
was the
campus minister and the Kirk Chair Professor of Religious Studies. He received
his
bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University, a Master of Divinity from
Saint Paul
School of Theology, a Master of Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
and a Ph.D. in religious studies from Northwestern University and Garrett-Evangelical
Theological Seminary. Rankin holds Elders Orders and full membership in the
Kansas West Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Rankin’s prior appointments include faculty and instructor
at Saint Paul School of Theology and Bethany College. In addition, he has held
pastoral appointments in Rome and Florence, Italy; Chicago; and Winfield, Kansas.
In 1997, the United Methodist Church’s General Board of Higher Education
and Ministry honored Rankin with an Exemplary Teacher Award. Earlier in his
career, he earned a John Wesley Fellowship.
Steve and his wife Joni have four grown children and one grandson.
Dr. Judy Henneberger– Associate
Chaplain to the University

A native of south Louisiana, Judy received her bachelors in General Studies
with an emphasis in women's studies and psychology from the University of Texas
at Dallas. She holds a Masters of Theological Studies from the University of
Dallas, as well as a Doctor of Minstry from Perkins School of Theology. All
summed up, her work in pastoral ministry spans over thirty years, including
eleven as Campus Minster of the Catholic Community at SMU. She convenes the
Campus Ministry Council, as well as oversees the Resident Chaplains Programs.
She and her husband, John, have four children and eight grandchildren.

Betty McHone - Coordinator II

Betty, a native Texas, makes her home in Kaufman, Texas with husband
Will. They are parents to two grown daughters, both SMU grads. Betty holds a
B.S.S. in psychology along with a religious studies minor from SMU
and is working toward a Masters in Counseling degree also at SMU. Betty coordinates
SMU's Civil Rights Pilgrimage and collaborates in pastoral initiatives.
Edilson Volfe - Pastoral
Care Chaplain

Ed is originally from Brazil, the only country in South America where people
speak Portuguese. A BA in Theology in Brazil put him in contact with Perkins
School of Theology, where he came in 2004 for a Master degree in Church Ministries,
with emphasis in Christian Education. Ed is in the process of Ordination in
the United Methodist Church to serve as an Elder in the US. Ed and his wife
Daniele have two daughters, Isabelle and Stephanie.
