VISION OF SMU WESLEY: “To be an authentic, missional community of Christ followers.”

Our Core Values

1. Communion
God calls us to enter into an intimate, loving relationship with Himself. In
response to God’s grace, we pursue God through worship, devotion, and
prayer.

"Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8)

2. Community
The Christian life cannot be lived in isolation. Therefore, we share and live
our lives with one another in Christ-centered community so that we can
become the people God calls us to be.

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the
prayers. (Acts 2:42)

3. Christ-likeness
God calls us to commit our lives to Him so that we might become more like
Jesus. Therefore, we are determined to grow in our faith through committing
to practice the spiritual disciplines as a means of grace.

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image
from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Cor. 3: 18)

4. Calling
God calls each person to be a unique part of his kingdom building work on planet earth therefore we discern our unique God design and commit to live out that calling in the world.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit…To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Cor. 12: 7)

5. Compassion
The heart of God weeps for the spiritual and physical condition of our world.
Therefore, we seek to connect with the compassion of God and become a part
of the transformation of the world through prayer, service, and relational and
servant evangelism.

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the
end of the age.” (Matt. 28: 18-20)

Small Groups
Meet at Wesley House and other places
Small groups exist at Wesley for the purpose of community building, spiritual growth in Christ, and peer to peer accountability. Most weekly small groups are student led and are separated by genders.

Fellowship
Wesley students gather weekly after worship, hang out during the week at the Wesley House, play sports together through intramurals, host a winter semi-formal, watch movies, tailgate at football games, play games, create art, and drink coffee together often.

Prayer
SMU Wesley takes John Wesley’s words seriously when he said. “God does nothing apart from prayer.” Every week we gather to pray at 7pm in the Perkins Chapel for a time of intercessory prayer for our ministry and campus. There is also a designated “prayer room” upstairs inside the Wesley House. Wesley regularly hosts and participates in the campus wide “House of Prayer” events.

Missions
SMU Wesley students demonstrate their faith in Jesus Christ through missions on campus, in metro Dallas, throughout the country, and to the ends of the earth. They have taken annual spring break and summer trips to places like: West Virginia, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Taize, France, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Retreats
A time to get refreshed, have fun, and get away from it all. Every year Wesley hosts:
Fall Retreat
Spring Men’s Retreat
Spring Women’s Retreat

Leadership
For students who want to go even deeper into their faith and take on greater ministry responsibility, they can apply to be on leadership at Wesley. Through leadership, students will enter into mentoring relationships with more mature Christians and have the opportunity to exercise servant leadership in a specific ministry area.
