First experiencing the Civil Rights Pilgrimage as a student participant, Ray fell in love with not only the history, but the current relevance of this forgotten history. Ray utilizes a variety of experiences as the leader of the SMU Civil Rights Pilgrimage. Although he holds two master's degrees (one being from SMU's Perkins School of Theology), it has often been noted that Ray's greatest contribution to the trip is his rousing renditions of movement songs every morning!

Jackie Lowrey is a Junior studying Political Science and Spanish with a Minor in Human Rights. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, she grew up in Richardson, Texas studying the Civil Rights Movement from an early age. She first went on the Pilgrimage in 2012 and will serve as a Student Leader of the Civil Rights Pilgrimage for Spring 2013. Jackie is passionate about history and politics and hopes that many students are able to take this trip of a lifetime to further understand such an important chapter in American history.

Nicollette Bruce is currently a senior at SMU majoring in Political Science and double minoring in History and Sociology. Fascinated by both American politics and history, Nicollette took Dr. Simon's course in order to greater explore a pivotal period in American history that forever changed the country. Being from California and never really understanding the impacts and effects of the Civil Rights Movement, Nicollette was both overwhelmed and captivated by her experience on the Pilgrimage in 2012. Nicollette looks forward to sharing her experiences with fellow SMU students as a Student Trip Leader for the Civil Rights Pilgrimage of 2013
