College is often a tough time for one's faith. As a college student the beliefs and faith that you have developed growing up will be stretched, challenged, and sometimes completely changed. At Highland Park United Methodist Church, the goal of our college ministry is to offer a place for students to ask questions, challenge their thoughts (as well as thoughts they may hear from others), and ultimately grow in their understanding and experience of God.
We work to achieve this goal every Sunday at noon in room 120 of Highland Park UMC (on the Southwest corner of campus) by gathering together to share a home-cooked meal and discuss the trials, and tribulations and success of life and faith. We will start this semester by discussing Rob Bell's Love wins, chapter by chapter.
While Sundays are our opportunity to discuss, debate, and grow intellectually, we also believe that faith requires action. Therefore, over fall break (October 7-11) we will be taking a mission trip to Joplin, Missouri to help with disaster relief. If you are interested in more information on this trip or in registering you can do so at http://hpumc.org/pages/youth-COL-mission-trip
Also, throughout the year we will do service projects here in Dallas with local agencies such as CitySquare, Habitat for Humanity, and the Austin Street Homeless Centre.
Also, something new we are trying this semester is Second Sunday Worship. This is an open door for people to gather together and worship their creator in spirit and in truth the second Sunday of each month. We hope you will take the time to participate in this night of worship. The first Second Sunday will be September 11th from 6:00-7:00pm in the HPUMC youth basement.
There will be many other activities we will do throughout the year in order to achieve our goal of experiencing God and fostering a community among you and your peers. We know it is often difficult to find a church home when you're in college. We hope you will give us a chance by joining us for worship in one of our four different worship venues at HPUMC, then stay for lunch and discussion. If you have any questions about our church or if there is any way we can be a resource to you don't hesitate to contact us.
