On October 13-14, 2010, Timothy Clydesdale, professor of
sociology at The College of New Jersey and author of The
First Year Out: Understanding American Teens after High School,
gave two lectures to faculty and staff on understanding
first-year students. The lectures entitled "Seven things College
Students Wished Every Professor Knew" and "Understanding
20-Something's in America: The Lengthening Runway between
Adolescence and Adulthood" were well-attended and warmly
received. Two follow-up conversations were also offered by the
Chaplain's Office
.
On February 2, 2011, Chaplain Steve Rankin lectured on "Seeking
a Better Way: SMU as a Leader in Church-Affiliated Higher
Education." Follow up conversations were also offered by the
Office of the Chaplain. The lecture was featured in an article
in the Dallas Morning News.
