Getting Started

The catalog is an invaluable resource that will help you become familiar with academic programs offered at SMU (majors and minors), including all applicable requirements.

At the beginning of the catalog, you will find general information on the University, including procedures and policies affecting all students. Also, administrative and faculty listings for all schools are located at the back of the catalog.

Use your SMU catalog to investigate declaration requirements and course descriptions. The degree plans in the catalog will help you verify sequencing and prerequisite issues.

SMU's academic advisers recommend that students refer to the catalog often and understand how it is organized. Study the catalog, especially requirements and course descriptions in your major.
