:: Job Tip of the Week

When Should I Start Looking For An Internship?

The answer is NOW! You might have Winter Break on your mind, but it is never too soon to start thinking about your summer internship. Most summer internships will start posting in January, but there are several things you can start doing now to better prepare yourself. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

In what industry do I want to intern?
Internships are a great way to figure out if you see yourself long-term in a particular industry or job, so try different environments.

Where do I want to intern?
Searching for an out-of-state internship can take a little more time than a local one, so plan ahead and start identifying resources now. Ask the Career Center for help!

Paid or non-paid?
Many internships do come with a paycheck, but not all of them do. If it is non-paid, but you would still like to pursue it, you might need to plan for a paid part-time summer job as well.

Who do I know?
Start talking to parents, family friends, your roommate, etc. about what it is you want to do and who they know who might be able to help
