Position Descriptions
Cambridge Associates LLC was founded in the early 1970s to assist nonprofit
institutions with the investment of their endowment assets. Today, we
provide investment consulting, financial planning and proprietary capital
markets research to over 850 clients, including over 600 endowed nonprofit
institutions, as well as family and corporate groups. Cambridge Associates’
clients represent over $1.3 trillion in assets in all asset categories,
including equities, bonds, non-US investments, real estate, venture capital,
hedge funds, leveraged buyout funds, oil and gas partnerships, and many
other types of investments. We monitor the performance of nearly all major
institutional investment managers and provide an advanced monitoring service
for our clients to evaluate alternative assets managers such as venture
capital and real estate firms.
We have a professional staff around 220 Consultants and 140 Consulting
Associates in seven offices located in Arlington, Boston, Dallas, London,
Menlo Park, Singapore and Sydney. We select our employees with great
attention to their potential to become valuable members of a collegial,
intelligent and hard-working team. Due to continued growth we are currently
seeking to add Consulting Associates in our Boston, Menlo Park, and
Arlington offices. Please specify in your cover letter the office with which
you would like to submit your application.
Consulting Associates
Consulting Associates (CAs) work closely with members of the consulting
staff in providing investment and capital markets research, analysis, and
advice to our clients. Responsibilities include gathering and analyzing
historical asset allocation, spending, and performance data; evaluating
financial histories; analyzing investment managers’ portfolios; preparing
exhibits and other presentation documentation; and answering client
questions and requests. Consulting Associates often attend client and
investment manager meetings; however, travel is limited.
Each CA generally is responsible for eight to twelve clients and handles
several projects at once. Every CA is responsible for arranging his or her
schedule and priorities in order to meet deadlines; however, there is a
strong tradition of teamwork and cooperation among members of the consulting
associate staff to help manage the workload. Although the position involves
quantitative analysis, there is also a strong qualitative component as CAs
work to describe market conditions and relay investment recommendations to
clients in written reports. The group has developed systems and training to
enable newer Associates with varying levels of experience to succeed in the
role during their earliest days.
In addition to client work, every associate is encouraged to join one or
more of the group’s auxiliary teams, which provide support for the entire CA
group, but also allow individual CAs to develop skills outside of
traditional client work. Examples of existing auxiliary teams include the CA
Wiki Team, Professional Development Team, and Excel Team,. Associates may
join any team following an informal application process. A junior management
role, known as the Team Leader position, is also open to more tenured CAs
who are willing to commit to at least a year in the position and are
selected by a formal interview process. Team Leaders manage work flow,
conduct performance reviews and oversee ongoing development and training for
fellow Associates in the office.

• An interest in investments and the capital markets or related quantitative
