Our responses are prioritized in the following 3 ways.

Any disaster, unusual occurrence, malfunction of a utility, or an equipment failure that presents imminent danger to life, limb or property should REPORTED IMMEDIATELY.

Urgent Requests Call the FMS Action Line @ 83494
Any malfunction of equipment which could cause building damage or loss of teaching/research time should be reported immediately by telephone  Good judgment on the part of individuals must be an important factor determining what is an urgent request.

Routine Service or Work Requests Call the Action Line @ 83494 or E-mail plant@mail.smu.edu online using the Get Things Fixed site.
Normal or typical repairs and service requests are handled on a first call basis. All work of the nature will be performed during the normal working hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (holidays excepted). All requests will receive a response within the following guidelines:

  • 60% within one working day
  • 80% within one working week
  • 96% within one working month

Permanent repairs will be made at the time of the first response whenever possible but may take longer dependent on parts availability, weather, occupancy, and other uncontrollable factors.

Only emergency or urgent calls will be responded to during non-working hours. In most cases response will be within two hours.
