CAMPUS PLANNING AND PLANT OPERATIONS

Executive Summary

SMU engaged a team of architects, planners and specialized consultants to develop a Centennial Master Plan. The resulting plan provides a framework for future development consistent with the architectural vision best represented by Dallas Hall and Bishop Boulevard. The Centennial Master Plan is driven by the following objectives:

To best satisfy the variety of initiatives and build upon the existing character of the campus, the Centennial Master Plan approved in 1995 recommended concentration of new construction activity in six general areas.

1. A new East Quadrangle to include the recently completed  Jerry R. Junkins Electrical Engineering Building along with the new Laura Lee Blanton Student Services Building and the James M. Collins Executive Education Center.

2. A new Science Quadrangle will be formed by Heroy Hall, a renovated Fondren Science Building and the new Dedman Life Sciences Building completed in 2001.

3. A new Library Quadrangle includes the new Fondren Library Center.

4. The new Meadows Museum and associated parking structure.

5. The new 32,000 seat Gerald J. Ford Stadium and  Paul B. Loyd, Jr. All-Sports Center .  The roads have been reconfigured to create a contiguous pedestrian athletic and recreational precinct.

6. Parking needs will be served by a series of new parking structures located at the campus perimeter, placing parking as close as possible to the demand while maintaining the pedestrian core of the campus.

These actions, along with the completion of individual projects for the various departments, will satisfy SMU program and space needs beyond the centennial year.
