What is SMU doing about Indoor Air Quality?

Prevention is the key to Indoor Air Quality. To this end our standard practices include:

• Keeping humidity levels in buildings below 50%

• Using air conditioners or a dehumidifiers during humid months.

• Maintaining buildings to insure adequate ventilation, including exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms.

• Using mold inhibitor additives in our paints (Portercept)

• Cleaning bathroom with mold-killing products.

• Not carpeting bathrooms or kitchens

• Installing carpets pretreated with biocides

• Routinely changing HVAC systems filters

• Complying with ASHRAE Standard 62-1989
