Facility Modifications and Renovations

All facility modifications and renovations, large and small, are coordinated through the Design & Construction division of Campus Planning and Plant Operations.

Request

The requesting department needs to have an authorized person send a request for a Preliminary Study & Budget or Facilities Modification/Renovation (PS or FM) to the Director of Design & Construction via e-mail or campus mail.  Once the Director receives the request, he will assign it to a Project Manager (PM).  The PM will contact the requesting person to schedule a meeting to discuss the request, develop the scope of work and evaluate the site.

PS

The PS is the process of creating a Preliminary Study & preliminary cost estimate.  The customer will determine if they can afford the project.  If approved, the PS will proceed to the FM stage.  If the PS is not approved within 30 days, it is removed from the list of projects.

FM

Drawings are created based on the preliminary study and scope of project.  The drawings are then distributed to the necessary trades and/or contractors will be contacted for bids.  The PM prepares a FM form and returns it to the customer for approval.  If the FM is not approved within 60 days, it will be removed from the list of projects.

Scheduling

The PM will notify the customer with an estimated timeline or if unforeseen problems occur within the scope of the project.  The PM will coordinate and run the project from start to finish.  If there are any changes in the scope of the estimated work, the PM will determine if an increase in cost is necessary.  If an increase is necessary, a Change Order will be issued to the customer for approval to over bill the project.  Once written approval is received, the changes will be made.

Completion

The PM will walk through with the customer to ensure job satisfaction.
