First Old Testament in Dutch This little Dutch book is not actually a Psalter, but rather a collection of 150 psalm-like poems in honor of the Virgin Mary, traditionally attributed to St. Bernard of Clairvaux (c. 1090–1153), St. Jerome (c. 346–420), and St. Bonaventure (c. 1217–1274). Each poem begins with the first words of the Latin psalm, followed by Dutch devotions to the Virgin Mary. These are accompanied by a short text on the five sorrows of the Virgin Mary by Anselm of Canterbury (c. 1033–1109). |
