Psalterium B. Mariae Virginis [Dutch]. Antwerp: Gerard Leeu, 8 October 1491. This little Dutch book is not actually a Psalter,
but rather a collection of 150 psalm-like poems in honor of the Virgin
Mary, traditionally attributed to Bernard of Clairvaux. Each poem
begins with the same words as the corresponding psalm of David, quoted
in Latin, but then moves on to express themes of Marian devotion.
Printed along with a short text on the five sorrows of the Virgin Mary
by Anselm of Canterbury, the book is a true rarity, as only five other
copies are known. |
