First Eskimo New Testament Testamentetak tamedsa: nalegapta piulijipta Jesusib Kristusib apostelingitalo pinniarningit okausingillo. London: W. McDowall for the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1840.
The first complete translation of the New Testament into Eskimo
was published by the British and Foreign Bible Society “for the use of the Christian Esquimaux in the mission-settlements of the
United Brethren on the coast of Labrador.” The United Brethren were the spiritual heirs of the Moravian Brethren, a
central-European Protestant brotherhood whose evangelism influenced John Wesley and the early Methodist movement. |
