First Uyghur Pentateuch

[Pentateuch. Uyghur]. Translated by William Carey, et al. [Serampore, India: Mission Press, c. 1820].

The first edition of the Pentateuch in Uyghur, the language of East Turkistan in China, was translated under the supervision of the Baptist missionary and linguistic scholar William Carey (1761–1834). He was responsible for dozens of translations of the Bible into Asian languages printed at the Serampore Mission Press in India. This inscribed copy was presented in 1822 by William Ward (1769–1823), preacher and overseer of the Serampore Mission Press.
