"To excel as a leading private academic and research institution with strong emphases on undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education and training in the molecular biosciences."
Recent decades have witnessed breathtaking advances in the biological sciences. The human genome and those of numerous other organisms have been sequenced and many genes associated with normal cellular, developmental, metabolic and aging processes as well as genes that are responsible for diseases, such as cancer, have been identified. Better understanding of the molecular biology of infectious pathogens has led to the discovery of candidate therapeutic targets. Detailed insight into the structure and biochemical activities of proteins has led to the emergence of nanotechnology as a field with immense potential for biomedicine and biotechnology. Indeed, it is an exciting time to pursue a career in the biological and biomedical sciences.
Research within our department focuses on the following areas: (i) Genetics and Developmental Biology, (ii) Aging and Metabolism, (iii) Biochemical Characterization of Protein Structures and Functions, (iv) Role of Chromatin in Transcriptional Gene Regulation, and (v) Infectious Diseases of Humans. Graduate degrees (PhD, MS, MA) are offered in Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) and exceptional opportunities for undergraduate research are also available. Enjoy visiting our website and please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or to schedule a visit to our department.
