As devices from computers to cell phones become smaller and more complex, managing the increasingly heavy workload for microprocessors becomes a more urgent issue. Associate Professor Mitch Thornton, who teaches courses in both computer science and electrical engineering in SMU's School of Engineering, is helping to pioneer verification methods for electronic devices that can debug potential failures before they occur. Provost candidate meetings set
• Three finalists for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will visit the campus for interviews and meetings this month. All faculty/staff meetings will be held 3:15-4:15 p.m. in the Crum Auditorium, Collins Executive Education Center, followed by a reception in the Bobby B. Lyle Executive Lounge on the Collins Center second floor. The search committee has set the following dates and times for candidates to meet the SMU community. Watch the SMU Forum over the next two weeks for more updates.

CONSTRUCTION NOTE – As part of preconstruction work on the new SMU Basketball Center, the University will begin teardown of the Haggar Tennis Stadium at 3005 East Binkley Avenue on Monday, November 20. The men's and women's tennis teams will practice at the SMU Boulevard courts. Watch for a campuswide e-mail with complete information.

• SMU athletes achieved a 97 percent graduation success rate between 1990 and 2000, according to data released last week by the NCAA. Ten of SMU's 15 athletic programs scored a perfect 100 percent in Graduation Success Rates (GSR), and all 15 were equal to or better than the national average. Read more.
