EVENTS:  sprints/relays/100-200-60-400 meters

HIGHLIGHTS:  I ran a 10.10 for the 100 meters at the 1972 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. I am the former Indoors 60 Yard Dash as well as the 100 Yard Southwest Conference Champion. I also won The United States Track & Field Federation 100 Yards Dash Title in 1974. I was a member of the 4X100 (440 yard relay) Relay Team that won three Southwest Conference titles in a row (1971-73/Michael Rideau, Joe Pouncy, Rufus Shaw and myself). I ran a 9.2 with my brother Joe in the 100 yard dash at the Kansas Relays and at several other track meets from 1972 to 1974. Our 440 yard relay (4x100) finished 5th at the NCAA OUTDOORS TRACK and FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS in 1974 with the time of 39.95 plus in 1974 we set the SWC 4x100 (440 yard relay) Record with a 39.8 (Michael Rideau, Joe Pouncy, Rufus Shaw and myself). In 1974 our 440 yard relay (4x100) won the USTFF Championship with the time of a 40.0. I am proud of the fact that my brother Joe won the 220 yard (200 meters) Southwest Conference Dash Title FOUR YEARS IN A ROW from 1970 to 1974 and seeing my brother Joe place 4th at the NCAA Outdoors Championship in the 220 yard dash (200 meters) in 1974. I hold the high school 100 yard dash Indoors National Record with the time of 9.5. This was set in Houston, Texas in 1970. While in High School (Lincoln-Dallas/ Willie Toles, Floyd Iglehart, H.Sneed and Leon King were the Coaches) I was a part of four National Track and Field Records. In 1969 we ran a 40.7 for the 440 Yard Relay (John Delley, Joe Pouncy, Rufus Shaw and myself). In 1970 we broke that National Record with a 40.2 which is now converted to a 40.14 (John Delley, Joe Pouncy, Rufus Shaw and myself). Also in 1970 we set the National High School Record for the 4x400 Indoors (oversized track) at Houston Texas with the time of 3:11.7 (Rufus Shaw, Joe Pouncy, Bennie Medlock and myself), plus I ran the 9.5 for the 100 Yard Dash Indoors which is a National high school Record. My twin daughters are sprinters also. Kim has ran a 11.57 for the 100 meters and a 24.03 for the 200 meters. Camille has ran a 11.41 for the 100 meters and a 24.02 for the 200 meters. Gene Jr., was All State in Track while in high school. {Jim Parr was my Track Coach/ Eddie Lane and "Cash" Birdwell were the athletic trainners who kept me healthy at SMU)

HONORS:  ALL SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE / ALL AMERICAN NCAA/Scholastic Magazine High School All American/ Voted High School Athlete of the year by the Amarillo, Texas Chamber of Commerce and Texas Jaycees with brother (Joe) in 1970/.
