Baseball's legendary closer Richard "Goose" Gossage to Speak at SMU Athletic Forum Luncheon
DALLAS, TEXAS – The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum welcomes the eight-time All-Star and 2008 Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, Richard “Goose” Gossage to Dallas on Wednesday, October 7, for The Texas Rangers Luncheon. The luncheon will begin at noon in the Khmer Pavilion of the Hilton Anatole. Media availability begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Jade Room of The Anatole. Gossage was an intimidating presence on the mound with a blistering fastball and trademark mustache. During his career, he pitched in 1,002 games and earned 310 saves. Gossage pitched in three World Series and led the American League in saves in 1975, 1978, and 1980. He was a leading force in sending the San Diego Padres to their first World Series in 1984. He is the second pitcher in history to record 300 career saves.
