Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn to Speak at

            DALLAS, TEXAS – The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum welcomes 2007 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and head baseball coach of San Diego State University, Tony Gwynn to Dallas on Tuesday, September 16, for the Texas Rangers and Hicks Sports Marketing Group Luncheon. 

            The luncheon will begin at noon in the Chantilly Ballroom of the Hilton Anatole. Media availability begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Sapphire Room of The Anatole.

            Tony Gwynn is recognized as one of the best and most consistent hitters in the history of Major League Baseball.  A graduate of San Diego State University, Gwynn played on both the baseball and basketball teams while in college.  Picked by the San Diego Padres in the third round of the1981 draft, Gwynn spent his entire career as a right fielder for the club. 

            The fifteen-time league All Star was a career .338 hitter who never batted below .309 in a season. Gwynn’s 3,141 hits make him one of 26 players in the 3,000-hit club. Gwynn won seven Silver Slugger Awards, four Golden Glove Awards, and had two World Series appearances in which he compiled a .371 batting average. Gwynn was inducted into the Hall of Fame in July 2007, the first year he was eligible, and his number 19 was officially retired by the Padres.
