NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to Speak at
SMU Athletic Forum Luncheon
DALLAS, TEXAS – The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum welcomes National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell to Dallas on Wednesday, April 16, for the Genesco Sports Enterprises Luncheon.
The luncheon will begin at noon in the Khmer Pavilion of the Hilton Anatole Hotel and media is invited to cover the luncheon.
Goodell was appointed the league’s eighth commissioner on August 8, 2006 and took office on September 1 of that year. The son of the late United States Senator Charles E. Goodell, he began his NFL career in 1982 as an administrative intern in the league office under Commissioner Pete Rozelle. In 1987, Goodell was named assistant to AFC President, Lamar Hunt, and worked in various roles until he became the NFL’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in December 2001.
Goodell worked very closely with his predecessor, Paul Tagliabue, and as COO played an extensive role in league expansion, realignment, and stadium development. He was also involved in the launch of the NFL Network and securing new television agreements, as well as the latest collective bargaining agreement with the National Football League Players Association.
