Three time Nascar Champion and Sports Analyst Darrell Waltrip to Speak at SMU Athletic Forum Luncheon
DALLAS, TEXAS – The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum welcomes the winner of three NASCAR Championships and winner of 84 NASCAR Winston Cups, Darrell Waltrip to Dallas on Thursday, April 2, for an Athletic Forum Luncheon. The luncheon will begin at noon in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Anatole. Media availability begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Rosetta Room of The Anatole. Waltrip is tied for third with Bobby Allison for career Winston Cup victories. The legendary racer was voted the American Driver of the Year three times, NASCAR Driver of the Decade for the 1980s, and was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the North Carolina Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2000, Waltrip retired from racing, and became an analyst for NASCAR on FOX where he won an Emmy in 2007 for Outstanding Sports Personality. Waltrip was one of the driving forces who helped make head restraints mandatory in order to reduce the risk of serious head and neck injuries in mid-race crashes.

Based in Dallas, the series features major figures from a variety of sports. The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum includes four luncheons and the prestigious Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet.
