DALLAS, TEXAS - The Texas Rangers will sponsor the next SMU Athletic Forum luncheon on Monday, March 3, featuring Cal Ripken, Jr., former Baltimore Orioles shortstop and two-time MVP who holds the all-time record for most consecutive Major League Baseball games played.

The Texas Rangers along with the Dallas Stars, Mesquite Championship Rodeo, and Southwest Sports Realty are part of Southwest Sports Group, the Dallas-based sports entertainment company owned by Thomas O. Hicks. SSG is also one-half owner of Center Operating Company that constructed and operates the new American Airlines Center in Dallas.

The SMU Athletic Forum annually presents the Doak Walker Award to the nation's best college running back, as well as the PricewaterhouseCoopers Doak Walker Legends Award. 2002 recipients were Larry Johnson of Penn State and former Houston Oilers Earl Campbell. The luncheon will be held in the Regency Ballroom of The Fairmont Hotel, 1717 N. Akard Street, Dallas, Texas.

The SMU Athletic Forum ends its season with The Guaranty Bank Luncheon featuring Sugar Ray Leonard on April 8, 2003.
