Binkley Apartments Closing in June
SMU is committed to providing a campus environment that best meets the needs of our students today and in the future. Toward that end, SMU Has been making campus changes to provide space for such enhancements as additional residence halls, intramural fields and other facilities. As a part of this process, the University will close the apartments located on Binkley Avenue effective June 1, 2008 so the land can be cleared.
Current residents in the Binkley area have been notified by letter that the lease for their current SMU Apartment will not be renewed. All residents need to move-out of their apartments on or before May 31, 2008, which is the last date of the current lease.
Residence Life & Student Housing will assist current Binkley residents with the following services:
- Current Binkley residents may participate in a special lottery for vacancies which may occur in the SMU Apartments located in the north campus area (along Daniel and Airline, close to Fondren Science Building.) This lottery will be held at the Housing Expo on March 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Blanton Student Services building room 110/112.
- Current Binkley residents who wish to apply for the SMU residence halls may do so between now and March 30 at the RLSH offices at 3058 SMU Boulevard. While we can’t guarantee a residence hall space at this time, Binkley residents will have priority over students currently living off-campus.
- An information fair will be held in late March with representatives from area apartments and apartment locator services. The apartment locators do not charge a fee to students and are helpful in doing the “legwork” on finding an apartment. The Apartment Fair will be held in Hughes-Trigg Student Center on Wednesday, April 2 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in the west Ballroom.
General Lottery for SMU Apartments
The general lottery for June-August 2008 move-in will be held Wednesday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Blanton Student Services Building (lower level). For more information on how the application process works, please see our "How to Apply" page. Availability will be limited.
