2012 Distinguished Alumni Awards

In honor of SMU’s Centennial, this prestigious event returns to SMU’s campus.  Join us on Thursday, October 25, 2012 as we celebrate SMU’s history makers and recognize the 2012 Distinguished Alumni and Emerging Leader Award Recipients.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest and most prestigious award the University can bestow upon its alumni.  The award is presented to an alumnus or alumna of SMU who has demonstrated a record of distinguished service and extraordinary achievement in a particular discipline, organization, or cause that brings distinction to the University.  Each year, four individuals are chosen by the SMU Alumni Board Nominations Committee to receive this prominent award.

Each year, the SMU Alumni Board Nominations Committee also chooses one individual to receive the Emerging Leader Award.  This award recognizes an outstanding SMU alumnus or alumna who has graduated since 1997.  The same criteria and process for nomination applies to this award as to the Distinguished Alumni Award laid forth above.

During SMU's second century celebration, the Distinguished Alumni Award will be held on campus and will also honor past recipients as history makers.
