REGISTRATION/DROPS

Practice & Travel Grids

Before registration, the SAAS team prepares practice and travel grids for each team. These grids include recommendations regarding each team's optimum class times and strategies for missing fewer classes. These grids are distributed to all SMU academic advisors to assist them in advising their student athletes.

Class Scheduling Grids

In addition to practice and travel grids, the SAAS team provides student athletes with class scheduling grids. These grids help student athlete build their ideal class schedule. Students can visualize their practice and class schedule and make sure they have time for meals, studying, and breaks.

Adding and Dropping Courses

Like all SMU undergraduates, student athletes can drop and/or add classes during the first week of each semester. To ensure that they are enrolled in coursers appropriate for both SMU academic success and NCAA eligibility, student athletes should consult with their official academic advisor, their LEC SAAS counselor, and the Athletic Department's Compliance Office during both the registration process and drop/add period.

Student athletes are expected to be as fully committed to academic success as they are to their team's athletic success. Consequently, after the drop/add period, student athletes receiving athletic scholarships are expected to complete all courses in which they are enrolled. For scholarship student athletes, appeals to consider dropping any courses after the 5th class day are made only to the athletic director. All class attendance, work and preparation should continue until the appeal decision is made.

The services offered at the Learning Enhancement Center should be utilized fully to promote academic success. The SAAS counselors will work with all student athletes to arrange tutoring and other academic support to complement classroom instruction.
