To ensure that SMU student athletes take full advantage of the academic resources available to them through the A-LEC, the Center employs four full-time staff who understand the unique experiences student athletes face. These staff members track student athlete needs throughout the academic year. Their work includes counseling student athletes at orientation and registration sessions, identifying academic support needs through consultation with coaches and student athletes, and conferring with faculty and academic advisors to determine the most effective academic assistance and services.
All other A-LEC staff, tutors, interns, and graduate assistants are available to student athletes as academic resources. All A-LEC staff report to the Associate Provost. To ensure that SMU's student athletes succeed both within and beyond the classroom, the academic counselors work closely with colleagues in Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Athletic Department.
