Learning and Attention Disorders
LeAD
Students with documented learning disabilities and/or Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (LD & ADHD) can find individualized support from the A-LEC's LeAD team. This work may involve academic counseling/coaching which includes:
- developing learning strategies tailored to a student's specific needs and learning styles;
- establishing time management and organization skills for academic success; and,
- cultivating self-advocacy skills.
Undergraduates with learning differences can also become involved in SMU's student-run support group, Students for New Learning (SNL), or they can enroll in a specialized section of ORACLE (EDU 1110) tailored for those with learning differences.
Whether you are brand new or a continuing student, you'll benefit from considering how your learning difference affects your learning, studying, organization, etc. Being well informed sets the groundwork for life on the Hilltop and beyond.
Rather than segregating students with learning differences into special populations, the A-LEC combines and integrates all academic support services into a one-stop shop meeting a variety of student needs. Please take advantage of all that the A-LEC offers as we believe our services can be essential to your success at SMU.
