Does SMU have a tuition payment plan?

SMU offers a monthly payment plan through Academic Management Services. This plan does not involve a loan, there are no interest charges, and Tuition Protection Coverage is available. Enrollment begins in June. For details, please contact AMS directly at 1-800-635-0120.

What methods of payment are acceptable to take care of my bill?

You may pay your bill with cash, personal check, cashier's check, money order, traveler's check, and major credit cards (Visa or MasterCard). You may telephone or e-mail your credit card information, or you may wire your payment.

SMU accepts VISA and MasterCard.

When is my payment due?

Payment for tuition, general student fees, on-campus room and board, and any optional fees is due before the beginning of each term. These dates are printed in the Schedule of Classes published by the Registrar's Office as well as the Financial Information Bulletin published by the Division of Enrollment Services-Student Financial Services mailed to each student before the fall term. What are the costs for tuition, general student fees, on-campus housing, meal plans, and optional fees?

The estimated 2008-2009 tuition and fees are $29,430, and the average room and board is estimated to be $10,125. A detailed listing of tuition costs and fees is posted on the SMU Bursar Web site, www.smu.edu/bursar.

Are there any other school-related costs that will be included in my bill?

Optional costs may be: parking ($200); yearbook ($54.99); and course fees (varied).

What are the application deadlines? When will I be notified of my decision?

Early Action Applicants (nonbinding)
Application deadline: postmarked November 1
Notification date: December 31
Deposit deadline: May 1

Regular Decision/Priorty Merit Scholarship Applicants
Application deadline: postmarked January 15
Notification date: March 31
Deposit deadline: May 1

Spring Decision Applicants (on a space-available basis only)

When is my admission deposit due?

May 1 is SMU's and the national deposit deadline.

How much is the admission deposit, and what does it cover?

$550, which includes:
$200 applied to your actual tuition charge
$100 housing deposit
$250 matriculation fee

When do I need to have my health form filled out?

The yellow health record papers must be returned to SMU by the time you register for classes.

Can my $60 application fee be waived?

An individual decision will be made on the part of the admission counselor in extreme cases, if need is demonstrated. Students should have their high school counselor write a request on school letterhead or provide some sort of documentation that a need exists.
