Going Green
The J. Lindsay Embrey Building, opened in August of 2006, won the 2006 Excellence Award for Higher Education by Texas Construction Magazine. The Embrey building is a living, learning lab for students, where they see environmentally friendly features at work. The building is home to the Dean’s office as well as the Mechanical Engineering Department and Environmental and Civil Engineering Department. The Embrey Building is one of the first academic buildings in the country designed and constructed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Standards. Highlights of the environmentally friendly features include the use of natural light for office space, furniture made from recycled materials, and plumbing systems which use less water.
