W elcome back to another semester! We hope you enjoyed your Holiday break and that you got some well-deserved rest. Now that the spring semester is here - and in full swing - we are pleased to send you another edition of the Counselor E-Newsletter. Please feel free to browse the links. We hope you will find the information useful in guiding your students through the ever-busy and always hectic spring semester! The Admission Committee will begin meeting to review regular decision, as well as any deferred early applications at the start of February. Because of the large volume of applications we received under the regular decision deadline, our office will be mailing out our decision letters in "waves." Students should hear from SMU between mid-February to mid-March. General scholarships have already been awarded to students who were admitted during early action. Academic departments and other special interest scholarship committees are in the process of meeting to evaluate and determine additional awards as well. Students admitted during regular decision will also be eligible for these scholarship awards, in addition to general merit-based awards. Students may expect to hear regarding departmental and special interest group scholarships later in the spring, around mid-March to April. We realize your time is now split among several different "duties," from keeping up with the regular decision applicants and helping the "earlies" figure things out, to counseling the juniors on the advantages of starting the process now. We've attached some links and dates that might be useful in keeping things together! Dates To Remember:
Upcoming SMU Events
Between completing applications, writing letters of recommendation, conducting spring testing, and counseling students as they narrow down their choices, we hope you'll find time to let us know if there is ever anything we can do to help you or your students. Again, we thank you for your continued interest in and support of SMU. We are glad to be working with such wonderful colleagues! The SMU Admission Office |
