When to apply Earlier application is strongly
recommended for those
students applying for financial aid or University housing, as well
as students having foreign transcripts. Processing
begins in early March for the fall term and in early November for
the spring term upon receipt of all pertinent data, including each
official transcript through the last completed term. Dance and theatre
majors are admissible only in the fall term by audition.
Most transfer applicants are enrolled
in classes at another institution at the time of application.
In most cases we are able to render an admission decision without
the work in progress but occasionally a student's admission decision
will be deferred until the final transcript has been received.
Keep in mind admitted students cannot actually enroll at SMU
until the final transcript has been received and evaluated for
transferability. (For this reason we discourage fall-term transfer
students from attending second summer-term).
After You Have Been Admitted
Enrollment
Deposits
For all degree-seeking undergraduate transfer students entering
SMU, a $250 matriculation fee and a $200 advance tuition deposit
are required in order to reserve your place at SMU.
This $450 nonrefundable deposit should be sent to the Office
of Admission. Space can be guaranteed only to those students who
have submitted the deposit by the appropriate deadline.

Housing deposit Housing accommodations are offered on a space-available basis for
new transfer students.
Housing forms will be sent to interested
transfer students once the students have been accepted. Students
should complete and return the forms, along with the $100 housing
deposit, to the Office of Residence Life and Student Housing.
Orientation and
Registration
At SMU, all students are required to attend AARO (Academic
Advising, Registration and Orientation) where you will meet with an
advisor, register for classes and learn about the resources and
opportunities available to SMU students. For fall entry, AARO is in
July or August. For spring entry, AARO is in January. For more
information, go to the
Office of New Student Orientation webpage.
Students with
disabilities
If academic
accommodations for a disability may be needed, the student must
first contact the office of Services for Students with
Disabilities to verify the disability and to establish
eligibility for accommodations. Since it can take up to two weeks to
review documentation to determine eligibility, it is important to
submit documentation early. For more information, contact Rebecca
