Former First Lady Laura Bush, an SMU trustee and alumna, is the author of a newly published memoir, Spoken from the Heart.
Writing with deft humor, disarming frankness and a sharp eye, Mrs. Bush tells of her life - from growing up in West Texas to meeting George W. Bush, from her experiences in the Texas Governor's Mansion to life in the White House.
Her memoir has been well received by reviewers and garnered her interviews by the national media, including the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Mrs. Bush, who earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SMU in 1968, gave the principal address at SMU's 2009 commencement and she is currently a member of SMU's Board of Trustees. The George W. Bush Presidential Center is scheduled to break ground this fall on the SMU Campus.
She talked about her book in SMU's McFarlin Auditorium on April 7 as part of The Dallas Museum of Art's Arts & Letters Series.
