
The following merit scholarships are exclusively designed for qualifying transfer students. All require a minimum of 50 transferable hours and at least a 3.5. cumulative transferable GPA, although the better scholarships require a 3.7 cumulative transferable GPA. The PTK scholarship is the only scholarship that requires a special application form, as it requires an advisor's signature. The application for admission serves as the scholarship application for all other scholarships.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Supplemental Scholarship
For members of Phi Theta Kappa honor society transferring to SMU.
• 20 awards are granted in fall; 10 awards are granted in spring.
• Award: $2,000 per year scholarship to be used as a supplemental scholarship to the Honor Transfer Scholarship (half tuition) or the Community College Scholarship ($3,000).
• Renewable for up to five terms if full-time enrollment and a 3.0 GPA are maintained.
• Requirements: Must be active member of Phi Theta Kappa for at least one year at your current two-year college and have completed at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.5 cumulative transferable GPA.
• Two letters of academic recommendation
• PTK Honor Scholarship application form
• Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry
• Selection: Candidates selected based on PTK membership, demonstrated leadership, community service, and submitted materials including essay, letters of recommendation, and application information.
Dallas-Area Community College Scholarships
For students transferring from Dallas, Tarrant, or Collin County community college districts and completing their admission application by April 1.
• Award: 10 full-tuition scholarships for up to five terms
Renewable if full-time enrollment and a 3.0 GPA are maintained.
• Requirements: Complete at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.7 transferable GPA.
• Fall-term entrants only.
• Deadline: All application materials, including transcripts, must be received by April 1. Final transcript due by May 15.
• Selection: Candidates selected and interviewed individually by University committee. Essay and 2-3 letters of recommendation required.

Honor Transfer Scholarships
For students transferring from two- or four-year institutions.
• Award: Half-tuition for up to five terms
• Renewable if full-time enrollment and 3.0 GPA are maintained.
• Requirements: Complete at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.7 transferable GPA.
• Fall- and spring-term entrants are eligible.
• Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry
• Selection: All students who qualify and have been admitted to the University will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
Community College Scholarships
For students transferring from a community college.
• Award: $1,500 per term for up to five terms
• Renewable if full-time enrollment and 3.0 GPA are maintained.
• Requirements: Complete at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.5 transferable GPA.
• Fall- and spring-term entrants are eligible.
• Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry
• Selection: All students who qualify and have been admitted to the University will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
Lon Morris College Transfer Scholarships
For students transferring from Lon Morris College.
• Award: Up to $1,000 per term for up to five terms
• Renewable if full-time enrollment and satisfactory progress are maintained.
• Requirements: Complete at least 50 transferable credit hours.
• Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry
• Selection: All students who qualify and have been admitted to the University will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
Methodist Junior College Transfer Scholarships
For students transferring from a Methodist junior college.
• Award: Up to $1,000 per term for up to five terms
• Renewable if full-time enrollment and satisfactory progress are maintained.
• Requirements: Complete at least 50 transferable term hours.
• Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry
• Selection: All students who qualify will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
